Linde Profits from Growing Demand in Construction Industry
Munich, 23 April 2007 - According to reports from the General Trade Union of German Builders, the German construction industry achieved the projected upward trend in 2006.
In advance of the Trade Fair for Construction Machinery and Mining (bauma) in Munich, Linde Material Handling has explained that for manufacturers of industrial trucks, this development is reflected by an increased demand for combustion-engined trucks. Located in Hall B4, Stand 331 the manufacturer of industrial trucks and drive technology is exhibiting the latest innovations from both business areas.
The unexpected boost in production in the German construction industry has coincided with truck capacity being scaled back over what was a difficult ten-year period for the construction industry. So it should come as no surprise that companies reported record figures in terms of utilisation of truck capacity. And not only does this apply to excavators, truck-mounted cranes and wheel-loaders but also to combustion engined counterbalanced trucks, says Georg Silbermann, on the management team of Linde Material Handling responsible for industrial truck sales. "Orders from construction material manufacturing were up by 2.2 percent in 2006 compared with the previous year. It seems building contractors and construction material handlers have been more restrained though, with a marginal increase in incoming orders of just 0.2 percent." Diesel and LPG trucks with lifting capacities of 2.5 and 3 tonnes as well as 5 tonnes are most in demand.

Industrial trucks have been subject to particularly demanding requirements set by the construction industry. They must be robust as they are mainly used outside in the wind and rain. But they also have to be powerful and fast. Given these demands, the advantages of Linde's combustion-engined trucks are obvious. "There is a reason why our share of the construction market is so high", says Silbermann. The fact that the vehicles have been setting the standard in economic efficiency for years now is primarily due to the vehicle concept: all models use the durable Linde hydrostatics as well as engine technology perfectly matched to the truck operation. In addition, the 39X series models with lifting capacities of 1.4 to 5 tonnes feature overhead tilt cylinders, a vibration-reducing decoupling of the drive axle and driver cabin, as well as electronic control of the lift mast functions using a manual operating lever.
The construction industry relies on combustion-engined counterbalanced trucks.
Linde Material Handling is expecting a further boost in orders from the Trade Fair. "The event comes at the right time for us and we are positive that many operators will take the opportunity to find out detailed information that will then result in orders", says Chief Executive Georg Silbermann.
